Getting to Wolverhampton

By Plane

Use Sky Scanner to find the cheapest fares, but bear in mind cost of transport within the UK when booking. Some airports are further away and add time and expense onto the journey.

Nearest Airport: Birmingham International Airport
From there direct trains leave Birmingham International Train Station (follow signs from Arrivals) to Wolverhampton regularly. The journey is approximately 30 – 40 minutes and costs around £8.00.

Other Airports: Liverpool John Lennon Airport
A bus will connect you to Liverpool South Parkway Station to connect to the direct train to Wolverhampton (approximately 1hr 15mins) and can cost up to £30, although much cheaper if you book in advance (we recommend checking thetrainline).

Other Airports: Manchester Airport
Indirect trains link Manchester Airport Rail Station to Wolverhampton, usually via Crewe and takes around 1.5 hours. The cost is up to £35, but sometimes cheaper if booked in advance.

Other Airports: Stansted Airport, Gatwick Airport and Heathrow Airport.
Trains go to London to change at London Euston for direct trains to Wolverhampton, or to Birmingham where you can then change trains for Wolverhampton. It can take around 3.5 hours and can cost from anywhere between £20 and £110! Always book in advance.
Sometimes, it can also be quicker and cheaper to take the National Express coach. If you take the train, we recommend ticket splitting for the cheapest journey (e.g. booking the train from the airport to London, and London to Wolverhampton separately).

By Train

Wolverhampton is extremely well connected in the UK, with a great fast and regular connection to Birmingham which serves most of the country, as well as being a hub itself for many train lines, including Manchester, Liverpool, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Bristol, Exeter, London, Southampton and Wales.

Check thetrainline for fares. Booking in advance is highly recommended for price and convenience.

There is a ticket barrier in operation at Wolverhampton train station. It is highly recommended not to travel on trains in the UK without a ticket as if you are caught you will receive a hefty on the spot fine.

By Coach/Bus

The National Express coach stop is located in Wolverhampton City Centre with coach connections for North and South England, including most airports.

Check www.NationalExpress.com for routes and fares. You can also try MegaBus for very cheap fares, but these will only get you as far as Birmingham.

Getting Around Wolverhampton

Taxi

The taxi stop is located directly outside of Wolverhampton Train Station. This is served by Black Cabs which will be more expensive than other taxis. We recommend ABC Countdown Taxis with their easy to remember phone number +44 (0) 1902 333333 for their affordable fares. You can also download their app ABC Cars from the Google Play Store and book and pay via the app. Please make sure you only travel in licenced taxis!

Uber

We have Uber in Wolverhampton, but all Uber drivers must be registered taxi drivers. Most of the time you’ll just end up in one of the licenced taxis that are also operating with Uber. Prices can sometimes be more than a normal taxi so really only useful for convenience.

Bus

Most buses leave from Wolverhampton’s main bus station, which is located a 2 minute walk from Wolverhampton Train Station. If coming from the train station, walk straight on, over a bridge crossing the ring road, and turn left at the end of the shops. Here, there is helpful information and staff to help you find any bus you need, and the timetables. Please note, some buses do not leave from the bus station, but will be a short walk away. Day tickets cost £4.00 off peak (after 9:30) and on weekends. They cost £4.60 during peak time (correct May 2017). More details here.

Walking

Wolverhampton is a very walkable city. Most recommended hotels are in walking distance of the train and bus station, and all venues are no further than 15 minutes walk from the centre of town. Wolverhampton is as safe as any other big city to walk around at night, and as such we recommend walking in groups late at night and using the same common sense you would use anywhere else.
